Welcome to our Blog!

On this page you can find our "old" blog posts from 2023. Amongst other things you will find here the posts we wrote during our stay in Spain. You definitely don't want to miss that!
Here you will get back to our more recent posts.

Update: accommodations in Spain

We have an Update for you regarding the accommodations we had in Spain. (Here you can read the first part.) When the last post went online, we weren’t fully out of it just yet. It was looking really good, and we could say for certain that we would get out of that booking and that the signed rental agreement would no longer bother us. A day later or so (we were still in Spain at that point) we got the E-Mails that finally made us completely free. One stated that we are out of it, and it also gave us an insurance that the landlords have no further right to our money. In the other one (and that surprised us) they asked for invoices from the two apartment we booked while the chaos was going on with that room. They wanted to check that and give us some money back. We were surprised, because we didn’t expect to get some of that money back. It took another week or one and a half (we were already back in Germany again) and we got the initial fee from the website and some extra money back.

Tuesday, October 10th

Today has been Darling’s first working day! He found a place for his internship at a regional company that has specialized on software development. His primary tasks will be about UI/UX design and usability testing. Darling has used the day to further prepare for her online studies.
After we had finished our work, we had a meeting with other Rangers. We are in the regional (our region is the southern part of the Black Forest) work for our oldest participants (about 15-21 years old; they are called “Pfadranger”), and our mission is to organize events for these Rangers. If you are interested in what we have done so far or if you want to stay up to date, check out our Instagram channel: @pfadranger_bw08. The evening has been productive, we ate pizza together, and we had a really good time.

Monday, October 9th

A new week is starting and there is plenty to do for Darling and Darling. Darling is finishing the last paperwork to finally start with her online studies, and Darling is looking for a place to make his internship (it seems like it could work to spontaneously make the internship this winter).
Additionally, we had to do some work in the garden again today, and we went to the blood donation in the afternoon. Darling donated blood and Darling accompanied him since she is not allowed to donate blood herself. We think that blood donation is a great thing to do something good and to put the famous words “Love Thy Nighbor” into action. We had a great time there with good company and a shared meal after the donation. Have you ever donated blood?

Sunday, October 8th

We have had a relaxed day. We picked up Leon (a friend of ours – you will hear from him more often in future blog posts and podcasts), made tasty food and watched some YouTube. (We watched a video about right-wing extremism within the German police and we highly recommend everybody to check out the video – it’s in German though.)
Afterwards we focused on our to-do list again and Leon helped us to tackle a few items. He also helped us with our shelf project (have you already read yesterday’s post?) which worked really well. Leon had helped us with other project about crafting and engineering before and we have become a pretty good team I would say. We have given the project the working title “Antlers”, and I think the picture explains how we came up with that. And our Antlers are finished! We are pretty content with the result, however, it will take a few more days until we can finally install it because in order to so we have to empty the shelf the Antlers will go upon, and that step has several dependencies on other tasks. We will update you as soon as we have worked further on the project.
We have also used our weekend to plan a weekly routine that we want to establish. Parts of that routine are for example set times when we want to have our meals and at which time we want to go to bed. We hope that will help us to get more structure into our day-to-day lives and eventually enable us to get back to our morning routine consistently. However, we will be able to plan more clearly next week once Darling started his internship and Darling’s online studies have begun. We wish you a good night and a good start into the next week!

Saturday, October 7th

Do you remember the project we started on Wednesday? It is about crafting a shelf that will later be between two Kallax shelfs from IKEA. The background for the project is that with the two shelfs on top of each other there is still space on top of it. With our construction between the two shelfs we want to utilize that space. This project has been our focus today and we have made great progress. It’s not finished yet, but we hope to be able to present you the result soon.
Darling has also taken care of my hair today. She had braided them a while ago and today she removed the braids and detangled knots that had formed. I really like to have open hair again even though they are bothering from time to time and also quite difficult to manage.
In the evening we went to our youth. It was a great opportunity to meet our friends again, have great conversations, good food, and to spent time with God through worship. Normally, we have a sermon in the youth, but today it was a bit different because a friend of ours explained how it was for her to be in a foreign country supporting a Cristian organization for several months. That was both interesting and inspiring.
Darling was asked in advance to make the moderation for the evening, and he accepted which meant that he was on the stage several times to explain some stuff and to introduce certain activities.
I really like to do something like that because it’s not only fun to me but also a great opportunity to train public speaking in a safe environment. There are also several other skills that I can improve like organizing (because I have to keep track of all my cues and everything that I have to say) and my ability to improvise (no matter how well you prepare, there are always a few things changing spontaneously).
After a great dinner in amazing company, we went back home. It had become pretty late until we actually managed to go to bed, but the awesome time in the youth had absolutely been worth it. Good night!

Friday, October 6th

It is Friday again, and that means Rangers.
Darling and his team continued building their furnace (we talked about it in this post), and Darling went hiking with her team. Both of us had a really good time and a lot of fun.
When my team came back from the hike, we saw a fire to welcome us. We made food and I planned to make some tasty extra food for my team. I wanted to give them appreciation for the fact that they were ready to walk 10 km. They deserve to get something special from time to time, since everyone of a team invests themselves into everyone else of the team. And I wanted to thank them for their readiness to do so. It was just amazing to sit together at the sunset with your team and tasty food. We learned that it is so important for a good relationship that you open your life and have good talks, but also good food, because so much goes over a shared meal. So that’s what I wanted to put into practice. And who doesn’t like to arrive and get told that you get a tasty baguet, a burger and chocolate banana as a desert?
After everyone else of the team had left, we distinguished the fire and made our way home. There we had some more food and a good time with a friend of ours (he was with us at the Rangers). At last, our day ended with our evening routine. Good night!

New books for Darling and Darling 2.0

We got three new books in Karlsruhe!
The first book is Ivanhoe. This book created the idea of the modern Robin Hood.
I found it in a secondhand bookstore. It is really cool, because I wanted to read it for a while now, but I never found an edition that I liked, until now.
The second book Deep Work talks about the skill to have a focused success in this distracting world. So, you can achieve more in less time and get less distracted in general.
The third book Hooked is about how one can form products which are habit forming and people can’t get enough of.
We will come back to the books in the future, once we have read them, to tell you whether they are helpful or just a fun read.

Sunday, October 8th 2023, 09:44pm

Tursday, October 5th

Only a small amount of our time today has been used for our to-do list. With the bigger part of our time, we made a trip to Karlsruhe. Darling, Darling, and her mum had the idea for that trip because they wanted to look at the city and its beautiful castle for quite a while. Additionally, there are some nice bookstores there Darling and Darling didn’t want to miss.
The trip concluded with an amazing dinner in a burger restaurant. It was the first time with so much choice, because there wasn’t only a variety of vegetarian patties but also different combinations of toppings. We ended up with different burgers and sides and we all were really amazed by the food.
Back at home we had a relaxed evening and eventually went to bed with our evening routine. See you tomorrow!

Sunday, October 8th 2023, 09:43pm

Wednesday, October 4th

Today was another day of our amazing morning routine! Not… We actually made a cheat day this morning because we went to bad really late yesterday and it would not have made sense to get up early. That might sound like an excuse, but for us it’s rather a confirmation that we have to work on our evening routine in order to make our morning routine work.
However, only because we missed our morning routine doesn’t mean that we have had an unproductive day. On the contrary, we actually did quite a lot and we are content with our progress.
Darling applied to get herself a place to start her online studies (she is really excited about starting that) and Darling looked around for a place to make his internship (normally the internship would have already started in September, but since his plans have changed spontaneously he just started to consider making his internship this semester – maybe he has found the right place to do so, and we will keep you definitely updated).
We also started a new project in Darling’s room: We built up a bookshelf from IKEA for her and want to build ourselves another compartment that we want to add to it. For that we organized the material today and started to work on it. It will probably take a few more days until it’s finished, and we are sure that the finished shelf will be subject of a future post…
We went to bed with tasty food and the long-anticipated final episode of the Ahsoka show. (I think we repeat ourselves when we say that we highly recommend it to any Star Wars fan out there!) We wish you a good night and we go to bed with the commitment to rise early again tomorrow. Because we know: never miss twice.

Thursday, October 5th 2023, 10:51pm

Tuesday, October 3rd

We kept going with our morning routine. We again started the day at 5am and it was amazing. Later that day we drove to Freiburg with Darling's mum. Her mum wanted to look at the old graveyard and we accompanied her on that trip. It was really cool.
The weather was warm, and the leaves were beautiful. We walked over the graveyard and stood multiple times at graves from 1800 something wondering about the perseverance of death. We figured some of them were soldiers in the war from 1870/1871 against France. Others were just common people or majors of the city. It was really interesting to see through a portal into another century.
On that graveyard there is also the grave of the Sleeping Beauty. Legends tell that the girl died shortly before marriage and her lover put down fresh flowers for her every day. Until today there are fresh flowers on her grave, every day...
When our walk ended on the graveyard, we sat back into the car and went on. Our next stop was the Black Forest Line. It is a suspension bridge over a waterfall 120 meters above the ground. It was lovely. Darling and Darling made their way across and back. On the way we could see the beauty there is in nature. The way back was accompanied by rain. So, we made haste to get back to the other side, besides, the wind was picking up and the brigde was swinging quite a bit. That was a challenge for darling, because she is afraid of heights.
In the evening we had tasty food and got to bed just in time for the next early morning. Until tomorrow!

Wednesday, October 4th 2023, 11:34pm

Monday, October 2nd

It finally worked! We got up at 5am today and had an amazing time with reading (also in the Pur-Heft), writing, exercising, meditating, and praying. It was a lot of fun for both of us and we are happy that we finally managed to do that again! (Check out our posts from the last days to find out about our struggles there.)
After the morning routine we had similar things to do as the last days. Darling helped his parents with the work in the garden and made some phone calls with people from his university. Darling had some appointments and helped her parents with chores in the household.
We are both a bit tired from the unusually long day, but we are glad that we followed through with our morning routine and we are looking forward to making that a habit again!
After a relaxed evening with some tasty food (finally some burgers again!) and a good YouTube video we will go to bed. Good night!

Monday, October 2nd 2023, 10:51pm

Sunday, October 1st

…it didn’t. Yep, our plan to rise early today did not work out. The reason for that was insufficient preparation last evening (check out yesterday’s post to understand what we mean). However, this setback does not discourage us but strengthens our determination to finally get back to our morning routine.
Our highest priority today has been to make sure that we would go to bed early enough this time. We had a rather relaxed day with some resting and a few tasks and chores that needed to get done. A tasty dinner (Swabian Lentils) concluded our day, and we actually managed to go to sleep fairly early. Let’s see if tomorrow will be the first day of restarting our morning routine!

Monday, October 2nd 2023, 07:43pm

Saturday, September 30th

We are still on the track to becoming more productive. We rose relatively early today (well, it wasn’t actually early, but earlier than the last days at least) and finished a few tasks. Then both of us went home to darling because his parents wanted us to help them with some work in the garden.
We made some tasty food in the evening and recorded our next episode for the podcast. We are still in the editing phase right now, but some amazing stuff is awaiting you that will come next week – so stay tuned und don’t forget to check out this blog for updates!
We have been really excited the whole day about our new morning routine that we want to start again tomorrow. Both of us have experienced in the past that a morning routine can be a game changer to using our time better, being more productive, and enjoying our days more, and we want to get back to this state. However, it had become pretty until we had finished everything, so we didn’t exactly know how our plan to rise early would work out…

Sunday, October 1st 2023, 10:56pm

Friday, September 29th

We are getting back to a more normal sleep rhythm. We have more energy than we used to have the days before and we don’t need that much rest anymore. Our alarm clocks ring earlier every day and the time by which we manage to actually get up is also getting earlier even though it’s not as early as our alarm clocks ring.
On the afternoon Darling had to do some work at home with his parents while Darling had to be at home for an IKEA order that was about to arrive. During the work I had to think about something I’ve read in the book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” from Mark Manson and I would like to tell you about it:
Shortly before we went back home from Spain my university suffered from a cyber attack and has not recovered yet. Therefore, it was really difficult for me to figure out how to contact whom and that’s also the reason why I haven’t informed my university’s international office yet. However, I found the contact details of someone who could have been able to help me, and I was contemplating to call her when I realized that I was quite reluctant to do so. That reminded me of something Mark Manson had described in his book as “VCR questions”. The name derives from the older generation that is often lost with technology while the younger generation figures it out just by trying and doing. Oftentimes we are also lost with questions we find really hard to answer when the obvious answer for everybody else would just be to try and to do. The reason for this is that we are emotionally involved into our problems and even though these questions rationally seem easy to answer, emotionally the are so difficult because they often carry the risk of failure or embarrassment.
My VCR question had been: “How do I tell my university that my semester abroad didn’t work?” From a rational standpoint this question is easy to answer: “You call the responsible person and tell them.” But for me it wasn’t that easy because I didn’t know how that person would react and what that would mean for me.
After all this consideration I realized that it probably makes the most sense to follow the rational answer, so I made that phone call. And it was absolutely the right decision. I didn’t catch her right away, but she called back during the Rangers, and I know now whom to call for the cancellation of my semester abroad and whom to discuss the further course of my studies with.

Talking about Rangers: It is finally Friday again! We had amazing meetings with our teams, and we stayed a bit longer afterwards to eat chocolate baked bananas (Darling made some with her team and a few were leftover).
Back home we had an amazing evening with a tasty dinner and an episode of The Simpsons (since we have to wait a few more days for Ahsoka to continue…)

Saturday, September 30th 2023, 11:55am

Thursday, September 28th

We could write here something similar to the last days. We slept in, had a rather relaxed day, and organized some stuff for our Reading Journal.
However, we would much rather tell you that we want to get back to a more productive state. We want to start rising early again from Sunday forward and rebuild our morning routine. Darling was pretty consistent with his morning routine some time ago and he tried to implement one together with Darling, but we lost track at some point. A morning routine is amazing because you start the day with focus and purpose and that sets the direction for the rest of the day. We will keep you updated about our path, and we would like to motivate you to give rising early a chance if you haven’t done so or get back to it if you lost your track some time ago as we did.
We had an amazing evening with burgers (yeah, somehow that’s one of our favorite dishes right now) and the latest episode of the Ahsoka show. (It’s as amazing as expected! We don’t know yet if we are looking forward to next week’s episode – because we are sure that it will be amazing as well – or afraid – because it will be the last episode of the season.) We finish our day now with our current evening routine… Good night!

Friday, September 29th 2023, 01:18am

Wednesday, September 27th

We have been really productive today. We went grocery shopping and went to get some other things. Then we picked up a friend and counted all our books. We are at 525 now. (When you have 1000 books, it officially counts as a library. How cool is that?) Then we spent our time with working, each of us on something else. Darling at the website. Darling at the Reading Journal which we started. (We actually have two. We will elaborate on that in the future.) It was really late, and we ate a vanillin pudding and watched a video. But before that to get Darling’s spirit up again we looked at curious animals. (Do yourself the favor and google how a snoot beetle looks like!) After writing that post we will end the day with the Pur-Heft and a prayer. Good night!

Thursday, September 28th 2023, 02:49am

Tuesday, September 26th

Our day was filled with relaxing, gaming, reading, and sleeping. We weren’t really productive in the sense that the did a lot, but still it was good, and we definitely needed that down time. We will see what happens tomorrow. We will read the Pur-Heft and pray. Until tomorrow!

Wednesday, September 27th 2023, 12:29am

Monday, September 25th

We kept cleaning out boxes and putting stuff away. That took us hours. But it is done now, and we can focus on other things again like the bookshelfs on our wall. (This is going to be absolutely amazing). When we were done it was already pretty late. We finished off our tasks for today, and set some goals for the next months. (We will focus on that topic in our next Podcast episode. So, stay tuned for that.) We also played a bit of games. Our Star Wars game and Super Mario on the Nintendo. (We found that thing again while looking through all the boxes and it’s so much fun.) With a tasty dinner, the Pur-Heft and a prayer our day will end. Good night!

Monday, September 25th 2023, 09:26pm

Sunday, September 24th

This morning we realized just how stressful the last two weeks really were. It was so hard to get really going. But we made it in time for the service. And it was amazing. We had a lot of fun with the theater and the rest. In the beginning of the service, we heard that we are joining the party and sermon in heaven for a while. Because there always is a party and a service to worship God. In the input we learned about the right way to give and receive Feedback. That is so important, so nobody gets hurt in the process. And it is an action we all can learn and improve. It’s also important to build relationships. After the service we made waffles over the fire. They are so tasty and it’s just nice to stand at a fire and smell after it later. Though sometimes its hindering, cause people tend to stay a bit back. We helped to clean everything up afterwards. And went home. We contemplated to go gliding but decided against it. And it was the right thing to do. We had fun and good conversations. When we came home, we made us food and watched some Chess videos. Later, we walked a little round. It was amazing to walk through the woods again. We really missed that in Spain. As we came back, we started to clean out some boxes. That took like forever. We went through that stuff for hours, but it was so worth it. The boxes are empty, and the things have a space. Junk is gone and other things are going to be stored safely until they are needed again in the future. It was actually more fun than expected, but also more exhausting than thought. In the end we made dinner and ate. We gave us the time we needed and didn’t rush with anything. That is so good that we don’t rush anymore. Everything is coming at its own time and that is good. We wrote the blog post, read the Pur-Heft and prayed. Until tomorrow!

Monday, September 25th 2023, 02:05am

Saturday, September 23rd

We have been really productive toady. We cleaned up and put the rest of our travel stuff away. Then we went into the city and got some things. For one trash bins, that will make it easier to keep our working area clean. We also got flashcards and a holding system for them. In these we want to write down topics and things we want to pray about and what God made from it. We think it’s a cool way to not forget things and have constant reminders of how good God is. But it will also show that He solves things differently than we want or think it right. After that we made ourselves a tasty lunch. (Nothing is working without food.)
This evening we went to our youth. It was amazing. Some people were so confused that we were back again, it was actually funny. We had lots of fun and good food. The topic was really cool. It was about taking the time in a “silent camber” to ask God where He wants you to end up, and what the next steps are for that. It was also talked about God as a loving father. That he will not just send somebody away because they did a mistake, but that He waits with open arms to be there for us. We think that is so important to not forget these things. To ask what God wants and following that and to know that no matter what happens He is always there with open arms waiting for us.
After having dinner together, we practiced a bit for our theater tomorrow. We will have a little one in the service, because we as Rangers are visible tomorrow to tell the church of the summer camp we had in the beginning of the summer holidays. That will be really cool, and we are looking forward to that.
(It was actually really funny how we came to be part of that play: We just landed in Stuttgart and were driving with a shuttle bus back to the terminal. We got a message from our outpost-leader that they need help with the play. We read the message, looked at each other, and knew that we were needed there. That was so amazing, because it was a clear answer to our pending question where God wanted us to be and it solidified our decision to go back to Germany, to come back home.)
When we came home after the youth, we watched some chess-videos. They were about ChatGPT and similar AIs playing chess which was really hilarious. We wrote the blog and read the Pur-Heft and prayed. Tomorrow we will go into the sermon and have a lot of fun. Good night!

Sunday, September 24th 2023, 02:11am

Friday, September 22nd

We are a bit closer to normal. We didn't sleep that long today and we finished some pending tasks. And: We were at the Rangers again. Oh, that was so amazing. We saw our teams again and had a lot of fun. Darling made some tasty food with her team and Darling planned how to build a furnace out of stone with his team.
Back at home we made some more tasty food (we had some leftovers from the burgers - so the decision what to do was pretty straightforward) and watched the latest episode of the Ahsoka show. (With every episode that show gets more and more exciting!!)
As usually, the evening concludes with working on the blog, praying, and going to bed.

Saturday, September 23rd 2023, 12:23am

Thursday, September 21st

We are finally home. With everything that is included. First, we woke up late, like really late. But it was so good that we could finally sleep again. After so long sleep was desperately needed. And we went out to do something for the Rangers today. Oh, how we have missed it. For dinner we had tasty burgers with honey melon (that is a real pro-tip, just try it yourself). And we finished the second season of Bad Batch. (Bro, what did happen there? Like what, I need to know what happens next. We sat there with open mouths.) Then we went back to the website and the blog. (Did you notice a difference?) Later we go to bed with the Pur-Heft and a prayer. And tomorrow is Friday again which means Rangers, yeah!

Friday, September 22nd 2023, 02:02am

Wednesday, September 20th

And then we landed on the airfield of the airport of Stuttgart…
It is colder than in Spain, but pretty normal for a February day in Germany. We will get used to it again. When we drove home, we got told that it had already snowed in the last week or so…
Well, that is how we expected our first day back in Germany to be like. Everything came different than planned. We boarded a plane today and flew back to Germany.
Today we woke up to pack the rest of our stuff and clean the apartment. We ordered a taxi, which was even earlier there to pick us up then anticipated and drove to the airport. And then we had to wait and wait and wait even longer. After we checked in our luggage our next stop was the security check. And then waiting again. As we boarded, we said goodbye to a wonderful country and its people until we would return one day. Our flight was good. We could see a lot and we were even faster than expected. After we came home, we got some food and met some people again. It is good to be back after half a year. (It actually feels for us like half a year passed so it only feels right to write it down.)
Later we will go to bed with the Pur-Heft and a prayer. Good night!
(Oh, and we will keep this blog and its content running.)

Impulse Of The Day: Psalm 34, 5-6

This passage was the verse of the day on September 18th, 2023.

Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.
In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.

This is exactly what we have experienced the last one and a half weeks. We prayed to God for help, and He helped us. He made big mountains small and took away our fear and desperation, because He was our safety. Of course, we were afraid from time to time, but only in moments. We knew that in the end we will come out fine. We've focused on God and found our joy and peace in Him. We are radiating with joy, because we made it, and we have our peace about all of it. We put our trust in God and He did it well. His solutions came always right on time and His plan goes further. And no matter where we end up, we know God will be right by our side.

Rangers in Valencia

We wanted to remotely join a meeting from the Rangers this evening and for that we took our uniforms on. And with them we went out into the city. It felt good to have them on again. (To be honest, we missed them a little.) We walked onto the area of the university. A woman came our way, she seemed to search for something. She saw us, came right to us and said: “Oh, you as Rangers, you can find the way. How do I get to the beach?” Of course, we helped her, we gave her directions, and we joked a little, that we as Rangers always find the way. And sometimes it is good to have Google Maps with us. Then we wished her good luck, and she was off to find the beach.
It was just amazing that we could help somebody. She saw us in our uniform and didn’t hesitate to ask us for help.
That could also be taken as a metaphor for us being christans in this world. People are searching for the right ways and sometimes we can help with some instructions. She only saw us because we had our uniforms on, and we think you can also see that as a picture to let others see that you are a christan. Only if others see us, they can come to us and ask for help. Or just come to talk to us. We don’t need to do that in an evangelical way only, sometimes it’s enough to meet others with love, respect and an open heart. That makes all the difference.

Wednesday, September 20th 2023, 01:21am

Tuesday, September 19th

Today has been our last day in Valencia. We will be flying home tomorrow. We concluded that it is the best decision for us to end the stress of the last one and a half weeks and to just get back to normal.
We prayed over it for the last days, and we have an absolute peace over our decision. We also believe that it is in the plan for us to go back to Germany. So, we are looking forward to seeing what God has prepared for us there and how He can use us.
We went out to look at the Universitat Politècnica de València since Darling wanted to show it to Darling. (It is actually as big as he described it – maybe even bigger.) And we went to the beach again to walk in the sand and go swimming. It was so much fun! After we came back to the apartment, we ordered food. (The Burgers were so tasty!) While eating we watched some Simpsons. We are working on the Blog now, and we are going to pack some stuff together and clean parts of the apartment later, so we can leave tomorrow as stress-free as possible.

Wednesday, September 20th 2023, 12:03am

Monday, September 18th

Our day was filled with research and food. Our day started late again. But after breakfast and a video we started to dug deeper into the search for a flat. And what can we say? It is really difficult. In the end we have some options. We will work through them tomorrow and decide what is the best for us. After a walk along the beach and good conversations we are back at the apartment to make food, again. (We walked almost the exact same route back we came when we moved in here with all of our luggage on Friday. So that was really weird…) Later we will go to bed with a prayer and the Pur-Heft. Bye, until tomorrow!

Tuesday, September 19th 2023, 01:00am

Sunday, September 17th

We are celebrating today, because it’s the one-year anniversary of us being a couple. Juhu!
It is wild what can happen in one year, we are grateful and amazed by how far we have already come. We are also looking forward to where God wants to take us.
We started our day late (at 4pm to be honest) and got up to eat breakfast. It is just so amazing when you are free to do things like that, because the time doesn’t matter right now. We also looked again for apartments, but we can’t find anything right now. We even wrote with someone, but there is also not the right thing for us. So, this gives us a pretty clear answer for now.
Tonight, we are going to get food from elsewhere or we even eat there. We couldn’t figure that out yet. We thought it would be an amazing idea since we wanted to celebrate this day.
We went to the restaurant and ate there. It was lovely and the food was really tasty. We both had a veggie burger and homemade fries. After we were finished with the meal, we walked home again.
We are spending the rest of the evening with the blog and its posts. Later we will go sleeping with the Pur-Heft and a prayer. We will write you tomorrow again, until then!

Saturday, September 16th

We had a slow day today. We woke up at about 1pm. Darling had an online meeting with other students of his. And Simi read the whole time. After that meeting was done, we went grocery shopping and walked a little in the streets of Valencia. We had an amazing dinner back in the apartment and lots of fun. Furthermore, we recorded the second Episode of our Podcast Darling and Darling, this time in German. We also spent a lot of time with the coding of the Blog and editing of the podcast episodes. Of course, we also wrote todays post. (Update: We uploaded the first two podcast episodes. What do you think of it?)
It gets better. We are still really exhausted, and we just realize how much time we need to get all our energy back, but we are getting there. It is so good that we can stay in this apartment for longer than we did with the others. That gives us a feeling of belonging and peace.
We keep praying. It is still good and necessary that we pray, even though our problem - for now - is solved. We still need the help and working of God. He wants a relationship with us, and we should not only come to Him when we desperately need something.
And with the Pur-Heft and a prayer we wish you a good night. Until tomorrow!

The current situation with our accommodations

We are sure that you have read in several other blog posts about uncertainties concerning our accommodations and problems caused by that. To prevent confusion, we want to make one blog post only to wrap up what has happened there over the last days and how we are going to proceed. It all started with the acceptance of a landlord that they would rent their flat to us. We arranged everything with that landlord before we started our trip, and we were happy to have found a seemingly perfect flat. The only uncertainty was that the flat was completely new and had not yet the necessary license to rent it. Everything seemed like that license would be ready in time. It wasn't. It's not even finished by now and it's already a week that we are in Spain. So, we looked for an apartment where we would be able to stay for the first two nights to plan on.
We used the time there to wait for an answer when the license would be ready. We realized pretty fast that we wouldn't get reliable information and that we can't wait for that license to be finished. Therefore, we started to look for an alternative. We found a few other possibilities that didn't seem too bad. It was pretty late in the evening, and we started to panic because we didn't know how we would go on the next day. Therefore, we just sent booking requests to all these options. Normally, they have to be reviewed by the respective landlord and as soon as one of them accepts a request you have that apartment, and all the other requests are cancelled automatically. For one of the potential options the landlord must have set up an immediate automatic acceptance because the booking was confirmed right after we had sent the request. That confirmation hit us by surprise, but we convinced ourselves to be happy because we finally had a place to stay. We went to bed with a weird feeling about this booking...
The next day the landlords sent us all the information about our booked room. We had to move out of the apartment early and used the time in the city to look at all the information. It seemed necessary to get everything prepared that day and move into the room in the evening because we had no other place to spend the night. This stressful situation and the landlord's confusing customer portal led us to signing the rental agreement in a rush. After the contract had been signed, we wanted to make the cash transfers that needed to be done before a check in would be possible. That was the moment when we were shocked by the requested sums because they were higher than stated in the advert. We had no idea what to do; we only knew that we didn't want to proceed. With the help of our families, we figured out that the landlord is a big enterprise with a lot of bad ratings on the internet that claim to have been scammed by the landlord. Under these circumstances we didn't want to pump more money into that room, so we decided to not make the check in that day but look for another apartment to stay for the night. The next days where mainly used to clarify the situation. In the end, they claimed the higher costs would have been a mistake and offered us the room for the pricing given in the initial advert. At that time, however, we had lost all confidence into these landlords and didn't want to rent their room for several months. So, we tried to get that booking cancelled. During the whole process the signed contract was looming above us because the landlords could have used that contract to claim the rent from us for the whole period, we had requested the room for. Eventually, we managed to cancel the booking without further expenses. We had already paid the first rent when the whole process started and we won't get that money back, but it could have been much worse. We are glad and thankful that we got off so lightly.
That was enough for us. We decided to not stress ourselves like that anymore. And to not force anything. We got a flat for five more nights (from Friday to Wednesday) to have enough time to consider every option we have. Maybe we will find one that will allow us to stay here until February just like we had planned it. But if we don't find anything we really like, that's fine as well. Then we will stop our trip on Wednesday and go back to Germany. The most important part for us is that we stay healthy and sane and that we can enjoy the rest of the time we have here - no matter if that is a few days or 5 more months.

Friday, September 15th

When we caught a cockroach at 3am we knew our night would be short and the day after longer. But we made it, we caught that thing (it was really big and fast and sneaky) and put it outside. (I never saw Darling running inside again this fast to slam the door in the hope that this creature wouldn’t follow him.) It was an experience…
Well, and as we anticipated we had a short night, and one that was not really restful. But our managers allowed us to stay in the apartment until 12pm. That was so nice and a direct example of God working. We prayed like 10 minutes before the message came. It was almost 10am and we would’ve needed to be out at 10. It was raining heavily and we couldn’t move into the new apartment until 1pm. We were done at this point and had no idea what we should do with the luggage and the rain, so we prayed. And then we didn’t need to find a plan anymore, we just were allowed to stay inside for longer. We napped a little and when we left the apartment the rain had stopped completely. What a blessing…
Still the way to the new apartment was exhausting and challenging enough. We walked there to get some time over; we still had half an hour until we could move in. The way was a parkour, because the rain had made little lakes on the ways, and we had to find a way around them. Our luggage is heavy and really unhandy. The way was 35 minutes with over 68 kg of luggage. (How did we manage to do that again? When we weight all of our luggage for this post, we stopped wondering why it was so exhausting.) At the apartment we had to wait for a little while, but that was fine. In the time the apartment was cleaned and prepared for us, we went grocery shopping. Then we finally moved in and just sat down for a little while. We made food and ate (it feels so good to finally being able to eat normally again). We had the chance to have a normal day today without worries and problems to solve. Because we are free of that now. God made it possible, and we are so so grateful for that. (There will be an extra blog post for the explanation of this whole situation.)
To celebrate and just enjoy our time we went into the city again to look at the cathedral of Valencia. It was impressive and we realized that we were already there on Monday. Back then we didn’t have any time or nerve to even look around and take everything in. This time around we had as much time as we wanted to give us. It was lovely and we can tell you, if you get the chance to look at the building do it and if you then get also the chance to go inside do it. It is absolutely worth it. When we came back, we made dinner and watched something while eating. Our evening consisted of laughing, talking, eating and over all just enjoying the city and the time. We also made a bucket list for Valencia, and we already started to check off things. It feels good to know we don’t have to leave the day after tomorrow again, but to stay a little longer, to actually arrive at a place you can come back to. We also were able to buy some more food and drinks, since we don’t have to eat it all up in one and a half or two days. We are glad that we don’t have to rush anymore and to find time for the little and funny things. To wrap this day up we made a little midnight snack, wrote the posts for today, read the Pur-Heft for today and pray. We will sleep in peace, because we know everything is fine and we can just be. Until tomorrow!

New books for Darling and Darling

We got four new books in Valencia!
First of all we got the Spanish edition of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid. Both of us like these books and we had the idea a few weeks ago to collect them in all the language we want to learn and from all the cuntries we have visited.
The second book is called "Cocina vegetariana" (vegetarian kitchen). We got that one because we love cooking and we think that this book will help us to also dive deeper into the Spanish language. It's really cool because the necessary ingredients are listed there but also given as pictures. That will be great to learn the Spanish vocabulary. Another good thing is that the recipes are easy. That will make sure that we actually use the book and that we are not overwhelmed when we don't completely understand what a certain step means.
"Lo bueno de tener un mal día" means something like "The good thing about having a bad day". We stumbled upon that book when we were looking around in the store. It really catched my attention and it sounded quite interesting. So I deceided to take it with me. The title just matched too well with everything that has happened to us during the last days.
The fourth book you can see on the picture is Babel from Rebecca F. Kuang. Darling got this book for herself because she wanted to read it for a while now and the edition we found in the little bookstore is just beautiful.

Thursday, September 14th

Today was a good day…
We woke up late (it was about 12pm) and started our day. We sent mails around and worked further on resolving the issue. We are so much further then yesterday, and it feels really good. Then we went out into the city, to the bookstores. (Yes, of course we got some new books – in Spanish and English). And we just looked around. We found an American supermarket, which was really funny, they have marshmallow spread and many other really sugary things there. And we looked at the train station. A picture of it is by the way also included in our post from last Monday. It is really lovely and with our estimation about 140 years old, at least. (We conducted research the station was opened 21 March 1852 and was the first railway station in Valencia and the third in all of Spain. That’s so cool). We looked at the riveted bolts, because we learned on our sailing torn in august, that everything that is riveted like, in this case the train station dome, must be from before 1900. After 1900 welding was becoming more and more popular and riveting was not used as much anymore and died out eventually. (So much for the little history interlude, but we found it really interesting and couldn’t keep it from you.) We also went to the beach to get our feed wet and run around in the sand and water. It was absolutely lovely and so worth it. All in all, we had a good day, with a lot of fun and good talks. When we came back to the apartment we sat down, played a bit in the game (Star Wars: Heroes), ate leftovers from yesterday, and watched a chess video. Oh, on that note: we found an Aldi and of course we had to go there to see if it is so different from the ones at home. Our conclusion: we like the ones at home more. It has so much more vegetarian and vegan stuff and Paulaner Spezi. But the one here in Valencia had Bratwursts. Back on track… We will move again tomorrow, but this time we have an apartment until next week Wednesday. So, we will not have the need to look again in two days where we’re going to sleep. That gives us a lot of stability we didn’t really know we needed so desperately. The last week was emotionally so exhausting and did a lot of damage from which we have to recover, but we will recover. We have decided to not force ourselves to find something new until Wednesday. We hope we do, but we won’t force it. We will focus on enjoying ourselves in this beautiful city and getting a few things off our bucket list. If we are supposed to stay longer in Valencia, we will find a place to live. If we don't find anything, it is not the right time to be here, and we will make our way back home.
We are so glad that we have family and friends that stand behind us and a God who is all around us. We made some Worship yesterday and prayed often today. It’s just amazing that we can rely on Him completely. He is for us, and He fights for us. That we could see and feel in the last week. He always gave us what we needed at the exact time we needed it. If it was an idea or path to a solution. And that is just so amazing. If you are completely close to Him, you can claim the impossible. With these words, today’s Pur-Heft and a prayer we go off to bed. Good night!

Wednesday, September 13th

We moved again. It wasn’t far and it wasn’t long, but it took everything in us to do it. We are exhausted, tired and don’t know for how long we can keep going. Everything is so much harder than we thought and we have so much more difficulties than expected. Still, today was a good day (we diceided to feel good, even though our circumstances might be bad). We went out into the city, the first time we actually went there with a destination and a purpose and the first time we had the time to look at the city and walk around for a bit. It was good, it felt good, not being lost, but actually navigating through that city…
We started today with a prayer and until we really stared we did it a couple more times. We started to resolve that issue with the flat (hopefully that works out fine - our God is great). Then we got the chance to stay longer in the other apartment which was so nice. That way we didn’t have to be outside to figure further steps out, but we could sit on a desk with laptops in front of us. When we left the apartment we drove directly to the new one and moved right in. They had even prepared a little gift for us that was waiting on the table. Now we have a place to stay until Friday. Tomorrow we will decide what we will and can do and then we will act on that. For the rest of the day we were Darling and Darling in this beautiful city without any problems to solve and tried to get some peace back…
It is so good to know that our families support us so much and that we are not alone in this.
On our way back to the apartment we went grocery shopping. It was so cool because we already started to pick up on the Spanish language (even though we out ourselves as non-natives in like the first couple of words, but it’s funny). Our dinner was fast, easy and really tasty (we made noodles with a tomato sauce), and we watched the new episode of Ahsoka. (Bro, what is this show?? The transitions are so cool, everything is so cool… arg, why does it take a week until we get the next one?) And of course, we didn’t forget you, so we also made a new blog post. (We hope you are well and that you can benefit from this Blog.) With today’s Pur-Heft and a prayer we will sleep until a new day begins in which everything is possible. Good night!

Update to the latest episode of "How did this happen? We are smarter than this."

Apparently not.
Do you remember our post from Saturday? We didn't manage to empty the whole bottle in time. We decided to take it with us into the other flat, so we carried it through half of the city. It even rested with the rest of our luggage in the locker for several hours.
However, in our new flat the owner provided water to trink for us (even cooled), so we didn't need to drink from our bottle. This morning when we moved out, we realized that we still had water in that annoying thing. With a heavy heart we decided to pour out the water because we didn't know if it would still be good after all these days standing in the heat. (And we didn't want to take it with us again to move into another flat. The luggage is heavy enough without the water.)

Tuesday, September 12th

Today was the first day of university for Tim. He met the people there and got a tour through the buildings. It was really cool. The university area is like a little city itself, very impressive.
Simi stayed in the apartment and just slept for 3 hours. That was much needed after that stress. Afterwards we spend another 9 hours trying to solve the flat issue. We are not really further yet, but tomorrow is a new day and we will find a solution. We kept praying and know that God is already working on it. And as we know His timing is always perfect, even if it doesn’t feel like it for us. We will go to bed with today’s Pur-Heft and a good prayer. Good night!

Impulse Of The Day: Isahia 41, 13

That has been the verse of the day today (11.09.2023).

For I hold you by your right hand – I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, `Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.´

If that bible verse is not talking right into our situation than I don’t know what is. What an amazing promise! We can rely on that God is doing exactly that. When you are in a situation, like we are right now, it’s pretty easy to be afraid and truth be told, we were afraid multiple times today and didn’t know what to do next. We tried to get help and support from different people, because we knew, we couldn't do it alone. And in all of the chaos God still has the overview of everything. We did the right thing, laying everything before God and completely trusting Him. Tonight we sleep soundly and peacefully, because we know He will care for us again tomorrow.

Tuesday, September 12th 2023, 12:27am

Monday, September 11th

We finally moved in, hurray… well, that is what we initially wanted to write into today’s post, but it came differently than planned and had so many twists and turns waiting for us today. We came even close to quitting…
Our day started really good, we woke up at the right time, got everything done and even the taxi was already waiting for us to bring us to the train station were we planned to lock our luggage for the 5 hours we had to wait. But then everything went a bit off the rails. First, we booked the locker at the wrong place, so we had to walk for 20 minutes with all of our luggage to get to the right one. Then we didn’t find food, so we kept searching for about three hours (which is not that easy when it has to be vegetarian). We found food eventually (and it was so tasty), but until then we had no room in a flat anymore and were searching for a sleeping place again. Turns out we got a bit scammed… well, and so we kept walking around the street without a plan and a place to go. We felt really lost in this big big city and at times we just wanted to go home again. It is so good that we have each other to rely on and to help us see the positive in every situation. And more often than not, a good hug can keep one from breaking under the stress and chaos.
We kept calling our families for new plans and prayers (thank you so much for all the help und support we've got from you). And we also kept praying a lot. Darling and Darling walking around completely lost and overwhelmed in a big city they don’t know and stopping every now and then to pray again. We kept reminding ourselves that we are never alone in this situation and that God has good plans for us, even though we cannot see the end of it right now. We kept saying that the ways of God are mysteries ones, and that He could also give us a light to see something in this dark mess. But we know that he will be our light to guide us, though sometimes He could do it in less riddles. And while all of that was going on, our other landlord (you remember in a minute), the one who didn’t answer anymore (we told you on last Friday about that), wrote us again. We will see what happens there. For now, we found a little apartment for the next two nights (plus it is really close to Tim’s university, so yeah. And it has a bookstore for Simi right next to it). And not even two minutes of walking and we can get groceries. We are in an apartment with food and are really exhausted but so grateful that we are in this together and that God is with us. And even that was a real challenge. So, we booked it, drove there by taxi and were standing in front of a closed door waiting for instructions via Messenger the get in. But there were no instructions and so we kept waiting for half an hour or so. Simi was about to quit, and Tim was calling the managers again and again, nobody answered. But then we got the idea to call the emergency number which was given in the voicemail. And beware it worked, within 10 minutes we were inside the apartment and half an hour later in the grocery store to get food for tonight. After we ate and watched something we feel a bit better, but still exhausted, frustrated and sad. The world will look different tomorrow, and we will read the Pur-Heft and pray before going to bed. Good night!

Monday, September 11th 2023, 11:54pm

Sunday, September 10th

It was about 1 pm when we woke up today. Again. Well, somehow that seems to be a theme right now, waking up and starting the day late, but it was good. We got up and ate some breakfast. After which we sat down and spend hours on the blog, the podcast and other things related to that (it’s more work than we thought, and still, it is a lot of fun and we will definitely continue to do so). All in all, the day today was a slow one, with work and laughing. And of course, amazing food. We made hamburgers for dinner (vegetarian of course) and watched a chess video on YouTube (somehow, we have to improve our chess skills. Jokes aside, it’s actually a lot of fun to see that chess is confusing for everybody and all sit in the same boat). After dinner was done, we just spend some time talking and doing nothing (everyone who knows us, also knows that this is nothing that goes on forever). So, we are back at the table to work some more. Later we will walk around and pack our stuff so we can move across the city without stress tomorrow. And hey, you can see and read what we worked on for the last couple of days, yeah. Today was the launch of our blog. So, cheers to us, I guess. (How do you like it so far?) Tim could tell you how tedious it was from time to time to figure out what he needed to do so that html would listen to him and not do something entirely different. Simi could tell you that writing posts and figuring out what pictures to use can also be a challenge, especially if they are in the wrong format. But all in all, we think we did a pretty good job, and we can’t wait to figure more out and grow in that area.
We were at the beach again, and again it was really beautiful, though this time we weren’t that long and neither in the water nor the sand. We just feel really exhausted right now from everything that went on the last couple of days with finding a flat and making that work. After another chess video and a little snack, we packed our things so we can leave at 10 am tomorrow. Our plan is to drive right to our new home, though right now there seems to be a gap of 5 hours between the time we have to check out of our current apartment and the time we will be able to check in into our new flat. But God is with us and we don’t need to care for that today, because we know every day cares for itself. We will read the Pur-Heft before bed and pray again and sleep so we get the rest we need. Good night!

Monday, September 11th 2023, 12:32am

Wait a minute. How did this happen? We are smarter than this.

Apparently not.
We bought 8 liters of water so we would have enough water for the whole weekend. Now we have to manage to empty it by Monday morning before we have to move out.

Saturday, September 9th 2023, 11:47pm

Saturday, September 9th

Good morning (looking on the phone to get a sense of the time), well okay, good day then. We didn’t have an alarm for today, we slept as long as we needed to. And it was amazing. It is almost 1 pm and we are happy and glad our day starts. After some time spent with reading (we also read the Pur-Heft in that time), laughing, and playing a game on the phone (it’s the Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes game and let us just tell you how fun it is. Darling showed Darling and now both Darlings are playing it. Love can be something special) we went out to get groceries for the whole weekend. Because the stores are closed on Sunday, just as it is in Germany. Back at the apartment and a sweat bath later we sit on the desk and eat/work. Eating because it’s amazing and we love it and work because the blog is not making itself. So, we are doing that for the next hours (it’s so cool, because Tim can code, and Simi is writing some entries. Well, we both wrote them, but work-sharing is also caring). We worked for another two hours or so (in which we recorded our first podcast episode as well - stay tuned for what is coming there). After that we went out to the beach. It’s absolutely beautiful there and the sand is lovely to walk in. And surprisingly the water of the Mediterranean Sea is not even that cold. (Yeah, we tried that out. It was 11 something pm, and directly next to so many other people, restaurants and some parties, and yet it was so peaceful there, right next to the sea and the waves that hit our feet.) Oh, and we got good news: We have a flat, well, technically it’s a room in a flat, but we are really glad and happy about it. Now we can built a home here (a big thanks to everybody, who prayed for us or supported us in any other way). When we came home, we just sat on our little couch for a while, then we made food (tasty leftovers from yesterday) and watched a episode of Simpsons (yes, we know, not quite what you expected, did you? Still, it is really fun and you can learn so much about the American culture). After that we worked further on the blog and its content, which you can see right now (do you like it?). Now we will shower and go to bed. Good night!

Saturday, September 9th 2023, 11:23pm

Friday, September 8th

Today our alarm rang at 6am. Our plane is taking off at 10:35am in Stuttgart, and we have to be at the airport at 8am. Time to get up, bring the suitcases into the car, and start our journey. Before the day actually started out, we prayed again, that’s just the best way to start every day. After we put everything into the car, we got a ride to the airport. On our way we prayed again, for everything that was laying before us in the next couple of days and for everything that we had already experienced. At the last goodbye some tears were shed… and on it went with the journey. First, we had to figure out where to bring our suitcases. Then waiting… Then through the security… After that was done, the next thing to do was booking an apartment. It was really good that we had to wait for another hour or so, that gave us enough time to do that without stress… (If you want to know what happened there, read our post from yesterday.)
And then it was time to board the airplane. How exiting (none of us was ever on an airplane before, well, wait that’s not quite true. We were gliding before, Tim has even a pilot-license and lets be real, it’s so amazing to fly. But back to the actual topic, none of us had ever been on a big airplane flying from one country to another). The flight was amazing and for the first time we were glad that we didn’t have any clouds at the sky while flying. That way we could see the country 10 km below us. The landscape changed really fast and soon we flew over big mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. And after about 2 hours of flying we arrived over Valencia, a sea of clouds welcomed us. We flew through the clouds to see the beautiful city underneath and landed at the airport. After we got our suitcases back, we made our way to the taxis and drove through half of the city to get to our apartment. It is beautiful and gives us everything we need for the first days here. Tim had an online meeting from the university here, so he joint there. Simi just read for two hours (books want to be read). In a break we went to a Lidl (we also were really surprised that these are here) to get some groceries for the evening (we also need food, and some snacks). After the online meeting was over, we cooked something and ate while watching Ahsoka (can we just talk about how amazing this show is, we are really looking forward to next week to get the next episode because: wow, we need to know what happened). After that we went out again, to get soap and stuff like that and to see the city at night (we now also understand why the city is so awake at night, it’s the only time you actually can do something without the heat punching you). When we finished our walk we ended our day with a cooling shower, prayer and the Pur-heft (we have it on our phone, and it has a daily biblevers and someone wrote a little bit to it. It’s amazing as a little impulse for the day and often it really helps, because it fits right into the situation. That’s just another way of God talking to us and it’s amazing that we can just listen to what he is telling us). Good night!

Friday, September 8th 2023, 11:17pm

Thursday, September 7th

Today is our last day in Germany. As always, we started to pack our things on the last day (well, that is also not surprising with deadline-junkies). But surprisingly without actual stress. We are both looking forward to our time in Spain, even though it starts more interesting and intense than it normally would. The reason: We don’t have a flat yet. Well, we had one (somehow), but the landlords didn’t answer our mails anymore. So, we will wait until tomorrow. Most probably we will book a little apartment for the first days before we fly off to Spain. But we will see. For now, we finish packing and say our goodbyes to our families and friends and of course to food (Spain will most probably not have Knöpfle, Spätzle with lentils and no schwabien potato salat or pasta squares).
We prayed a lot in the last couple of days and will continue to do so. We read that even when it gets more difficult and louder from troubles we also should get louder with our prayers, so that’s what we are going to do. Our God is a big God, and we are excited for what He has planned for us. He already prepared everything in Spain, and He will walk before us. We just have to follow His lead and see where we end up. We know, at the best possible outcome.

Wednesday, September 6th

Well, tecnically, it's already Thursday. It is 3:50am right now and I am setting up the new website. Would it be smarter to go to bed?
